The shed members provided the labour to build the original sandpit in 2012 with materials supplied by Campbells Home Hardware and sand supplied by the P&C Association. Unfortunately the timber decayed prematurely and on examination by the supplier company new timber was supplied. The members of the shed teamed up to refurbish the sandpit. A study of the birds over the past three years shows their population is dwindling, but further south on the mainland, a colony of Little Penguins is thriving in Manly on Sydney's northern beaches. Marine biologist and researcher Sandra Vogel has been studying the colony since 2012. She said it is a serious problem, that seems to be linked with their habitat. "It seems like in recent years the population has declined pretty dramatically,"
Refurbishment of Rescue Reels
Simon Darwin2026-04-18T09:35:26+10:00Some years ago, Umina Beach Surf Club asked the shed if their old, well used, surf rescue reels could be refurbished. The men's from the shed accepted the task and this photo shows the completed reels being handed over.
